New benefit gives eligible family members one tuition-free course for every five completed, a clear way to plan for and reduce the cost of a degree
PHOENIX, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — University of Phoenix today announces a new family tuition benefit that gives eligible family members of employees at organizations with University of Phoenix education alliances a clear, predictable way to save on a degree: one tuition-free course for every five courses completed.

The benefit comes as students and families are asking for more clarity about what college will cost. In Strada Education Foundation’s 2026 report The Price Transparency Imperative, roughly two-thirds of students, parents and prospective adult learners rank cost transparency as a top priority for college affordability, and 71% of parents of college students say the same of multi-year price guarantees.
“Education benefits are most meaningful when people have a clear, practical way to use them,” said Raghu Krishnaiah, chief operating officer at University of Phoenix. “Our employer alliances already connect working adults with education designed around real-world needs. Extending tuition-free course opportunities to eligible family members puts those existing relationships to work for more people, creating additional pathways to learning while helping families manage the cost of a degree.”
How the family tuition benefit works
The new benefit provides eligible family members with opportunities to reduce tuition costs while pursuing their education goals.
- Who is eligible: Eligible family members of employees whose organizations have qualifying education alliances with University of Phoenix.
- How it works: Eligible family members can receive one tuition-free course for every five courses completed.
- Timing requirements: To receive a tuition-free course, students must complete five courses and begin the sixth course within 365 days of posting attendance in their first course.
For many adults, cost is what stands between considering a degree and starting one. In a national survey of adults who had considered but never enrolled in postsecondary education, the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) found that half of those who didn’t apply said they could not afford the program, and 73% said lower costs would make them more likely to enroll in the future.
The family benefit offers eligible families a predictable way to reduce that cost, along with access to the University’s flexible five- and six-week online course model, designed to help adults balance education with work, family and other responsibilities.
Building on a commitment to affordable higher education
The family tuition benefit builds on University of Phoenix’s broader approach to making higher education more affordable through predictable pricing, flexible learning and opportunities to save time and money on a degree.
In October, the University announced its new Locked-In Pricing Guarantee, effective Nov. 2, 2026, which will give new students one fixed per-course price covering tuition and resource fees through completion of their enrolled program.
The University also offers opportunities for eligible students to lower education costs through scholarships, transfer credits, credit for prior learning and employer tuition benefits. Together, these options reflect the University’s focus on helping working adults pursue career-relevant education while managing the financial demands of everyday life.
Through its employer alliances, University of Phoenix continues to expand access to education savings and learning opportunities that support the needs of today’s workforce and their families.
